ESGAR: Rising Star Award

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award is a recognition award to acknowledge promising young abdominal radiology researchers. It can serve as a stepping stone to further develop their research career in abdominal radiology. Selected Rising Stars will receive their award on occasion of the ESGAR Annual Meeting.

The Rising Star status includes following benefits:

Free registration for the Annual Meeting
Grant of EUR 1,000.00
Participation in the Award Ceremony during the Annual Meeting
Presentation of his/her research work during a lecture session at the Annual Meeting

We thank the members of the Parnassus Circle for generously supporting this ESGAR initiative. Grants are made available by private donations from former ESGAR Presidents and Founding Members.

The application for the ESGAR 2026 Rising star awards will be possible between March 15 and April 15, 2025.

Candidates for the Rising Star Award:

Are ESGAR members in good standing for at least two years.
The Rising Star Award applies to radiologists within 10 years after completion of training.
Have been actively involved in ESGAR (by attending ESGAR annual meetings and/ or workshops either as delegate, active presenter, or faculty member)
Have an active research portfolio and at least 1 publication as first author in a journal that is ranked in Q1 of the Clarivate Ranking 2022.
Can be at any career level. The judging panel will take into consideration the stage and trajectory of the applicant’s research career to maximise the benefit of the award to the recipient.
Have their main residence and workplace in Europe.

Awardees can self-nominate. The following documents are requested:

A summary curriculum vitae (use of this template is mandatory).
A short letter of motivation (max. 1 page), briefly explain the following:
1) why you feel this Award should be assigned to you
2) what this Award would mean to you/your career,
3) what your professional plans are for the future
A nominator letter of support from a National Radiology Society Committee member or their institutional Head of Department.

Application is currently closed.

The recipient is selected by the ESGAR Executive Committee on recommendation of the Research Committee based on the curriculum vitae of the applicant (track record in research, grants and honours, and publications), motivation and indicators of developing scientific independence.

ESGAR involvement (up to 5 points)
Scientific work - publications, presentations, grants, awards etc. (up to 10 points)

Motivation (up to 10 points)
